⚽︎ How to Get More Private Soccer Training Clients
Coach, if you're looking to get more private soccer clients, the good news is that you probably don't need to completely reinvent what you're doing. You already have the most important thing: your coaching ability.
The challenge is getting more players and parents to know about you, trust you, and understand why private training with you is worth paying for.
Here are a few things I would focus on.
1. Be Clear About What You Help Players Improve
One of the biggest mistakes coaches make is simply advertising, “I offer private soccer training.”
That's true, but it doesn't really tell a parent why they should contact you.
Think about the problems players have. Maybe a player struggles with their first touch. Maybe they aren't confident taking players on. Maybe they need to improve their finishing, weak foot, speed, or decision-making. Maybe they're preparing for an important tryout.
Your marketing should speak directly to those needs.
Instead of saying:
“1-on-1 soccer training available.”
You could say:
“I help young players become more confident, technical, and effective on the field through personalized 1-on-1 training.”
Now the parent understands what you're actually offering.
2. Show Your Coaching
Parents want to know who they are trusting with their child.
That's why social media can be such a powerful tool for private coaches.
You don't need to become an influencer or spend hours creating complicated videos. Just show what you are already doing.
Post short clips of:
Players working on finishing
Ball mastery exercises
1-on-1 drills
Speed and agility work
Before-and-after improvements
Small technical details you teach
Players working toward specific goals
Quick coaching tips for parents and players
The goal isn't simply to get views.
The goal is to make someone think:
“This is the type of coach my son or daughter needs.”
When people consistently see you coaching, they begin to understand your style and expertise.
3. Let Your Results Do the Selling
If you've helped players improve, don't be afraid to talk about it.
You don't have to brag. Just tell the story.
For example:
“When this player started training with me, we noticed that their first touch was causing problems under pressure. We spent several weeks working on receiving, scanning, and playing quickly. Now they're much more comfortable receiving the ball in tight spaces.”
That's much more powerful than simply saying you're a “great coach.”
If you have permission, you can also share testimonials from parents and players.
A parent saying, “My son is much more confident now and actually looks forward to training every week,” can be more convincing than anything you could say about yourself.
4. Use Your Existing Network
Coach, don't underestimate the people who already know you.
Your current players, former players, parents, other coaches, teammates, clubs, and local soccer families can all become sources of new clients.
If you have a player who is happy with their training, simply ask:
“If you know another player who could benefit from private training, feel free to send them my way.”
That's it.
You don't need to make it complicated.
You can also build relationships with local clubs and coaches. You don't have to compete with them. You can position yourself as someone who provides additional individual development outside of team training.
A club coach might have a player who needs extra technical work. If they trust you, they may recommend you.
5. Give Parents a Reason to Contact You
Your social media posts shouldn't just educate people. They should also give interested parents a next step.
For example:
“I have two private training spots available this month. Message me if your player wants to work on their technical skills and confidence.”
Or:
“Preparing for tryouts? I'm offering individual sessions focused on technical ability, decision-making, and confidence.”
You don't need to constantly sell.
But if you never tell people that you're accepting new clients, they may assume you're fully booked.
Make it obvious how someone can reach you and what happens next.
6. Don't Just Sell Sessions — Sell Development
This is a big one.
A parent isn't really buying 60 minutes of your time.
They're investing in their child's development.
So think beyond:
“€40 for a private session.”
Instead, think:
“What can this player accomplish over the next 8–12 weeks?”
Maybe you can create a development plan around technical ability, finishing, weak foot, confidence, or position-specific skills.
Now you're not just selling a training session.
You're offering a process.
That makes your service feel more valuable and gives the player something to work toward.
7. Create a Great Experience
Getting a client is one thing.
Keeping them is another.
When a player arrives for training, know what you're working on. Remember what you did in the previous session. Give them feedback. Challenge them. Encourage them.
And most importantly, help them see their progress.
At the end of a session, you might say:
“Last month you were struggling to finish with your left foot. Today you scored eight out of ten. That's something we're going to keep building on.”
Those little moments matter.
Parents notice when their child feels motivated, confident, and excited about training.
And happy parents talk to other parents.
8. Ask for Referrals
If you have a few clients who really enjoy working with you, ask them for a referral.
You can say:
“I'm looking to take on a few more private players. If you know another family looking for individual training, I'd really appreciate you passing my name along.”
You'd be surprised how often people are willing to help when you simply ask.
You can even create a simple referral system if it makes sense for your business.
For example, you could offer an extra training session, a small discount, or another useful benefit when an existing client refers a new player who books.
9. Build a Local Reputation
Private soccer training is often a local business.
That means your reputation in your area matters.
Get involved in the soccer community. Attend games when appropriate. Build relationships with clubs. Connect with other coaches. Be helpful.
You want people to start thinking:
“If you need a good private soccer coach, talk to him.”
That kind of reputation doesn't happen overnight, but it can become one of your biggest sources of clients.
10. Be Consistent
You don't need to post every day.
You don't need thousands of followers.
You don't need a huge advertising budget.
You need consistency.
Post useful content. Show your coaching. Share player progress. Talk about common problems players have. Explain how you approach development. Ask current clients for referrals. Keep building relationships.
Do that consistently for a few months and more people will start recognizing your name.
And when a parent finally decides their child needs extra training, you want your name to be the first one they think of.
Coach, getting more private soccer clients isn't just about finding more people to sell to.
It's about building trust.
Show parents that you understand player development. Show players that you can help them improve. Show your work, share your knowledge, create great experiences, and let your existing clients become your biggest advocates.
You don't need to convince everyone to train with you.
You just need to consistently put yourself in front of the right players and families and give them a reason to believe that working with you can make them better.
Coach well. Get results. Build relationships. And make sure people know you're available.
That's how you turn private soccer training from a few extra sessions into a consistent source of clients.
